the stacks houstons first meet up recap

February 20, 2016 was the first official meetup for the Houston area Stack-Up crew. Live Event Liaison, Andy Toppin coordinated the meetup at Main Event in Webster. The larger than expected group launched a mass attack on the mini golf course where they battled neon aliens and unknown space terrors. Luckily, they all came out on the other side and refueled on some delicious pub grub. They discussed the mission of the organization and began brainstorming future meetups. Discu

    raleigh stack event

February 24th, 2016 We all know the stereo-type that folks have when it comes to the Gaming Community. Everyone outside of the community pictures overweight guys with fedoras and neckbeards playing in their mom’s basement and yelling at kids on Xbox. The flip-side to that is the view those inside the Community have, that we are all badass Night-Elfs, Orcs, Assassins, and Mages saving the infinite universes from the diabolical schemes of one villain after another. Here at Stac

Xûr’s Inventory Feb 26th-27th Xûr has been spotted in the tower down below passed Eris and across the hall from Lord Shaxx. This week’s Titan exotic item is none other than the infamous “Ruin Wings” that have helped out many during previous year one content. This is due to its primary perk called “Seeds of Ruin”. This perk helps heavy ammo drop more often. On top of that, each purple heavy ammo brick will contain more rounds than they normally have. This week’s rolls on t

    Work Life after the Military

In total I have spent more than a year in Iraq, at least two years in training doing pre-deployment training, and recently have returned from a “WESTPAC” tour while serving aboard the USS Boxer. Our government has spent tens of thousands of dollars training me to adapt and overcome, find creative solutions, and accomplish tasks that are “above my pay-grade”. Yet finding a job that will allow me to develop to my full potential has become treacherous. My name is Joshua Fulmer,

February 12, 2016 at 1530 The San Francisco Bay Area Stack Team conducted their first event held at the residence of Anthony Keeton, the Stack Lead. Members Brandon, Garrett, and Sam spent the night discussing Stack-Up and its mission. The team brainstormed future events and how to better engage with the surrounding communities and veterans. There has been a bit of a hiatus from the weekly LCS, but it’s back and should be here to stay! (Even if it’s just NA LCS) What an exciting week this has been for a few teams, namely Echo Fox. Other teams had a lackluster few matches. Let’s dive into the fireworks that was Week 6 of the NA LCS. Immortals is still on top of their A-game with another two wins. The dynamic of Huni and Reignover has been an unstoppable force in the NA LCS. For the first game, Reignover introduced

    death stair nostalgia finest

When it comes to gaming everyone has their own beginning, their own story, and their own favorite moments. For those lucky enough to experience LAN parties or console gatherings, the feeling of laughing at or next to a friend is something without parallel. The most well-known party games for a group is most likely the infamous Mario Party series. The game placed you against your friends to win the overall game while competing in mini-games. Often players would team up just to

    street fighter v review

The balancing act of accommodating fighting game fans and casual gamers has been a struggle for many franchises. Street Fighter IV rejuvinated the fighting game genre in 2008. Since then, the industry has changed – for better and for worse. The same can be said with Capcom’s latest entry into the biggest fighting game franchise in the world. Many strides have been made to push Street Fighter into having just the bare essentials. This sentiment rings true not just for the game

    firewatch

I can think of nothing quite like going for a hike then getting lost in the wilderness, and the small team at Campo Santo has brought us such a wonderful gem of a game. Firewatch is a game about a man named Henry who takes a summer job in the wilderness of Wyoming to get away from his troubles.  After a two day hike, he finds himself deep in the forest cut off from the outside world with a small tower to stay in and a radio that allows him to keep in touch with his spunky new

    deadpool movie review

One of the most important film critics to ever live, Pauline Kale, cited that parody was the end of a genre. If that’s to be believed, then Deadpool should mark the end of the superhero phenomenon; just as Blazing Saddles marked the end of the western. I don’t think it is the case, however. Deadpool seems to scratch a different itch for the comic book film audience. Playing on the typical clichés one expects from a Marvel film but does so respectfully at the same time. No, I

February 11, 2016 Anthony Keeton began a mission this past Halloween. His mission was to find the elusive, inflatable dinosaur costume that had been such a hit during the holiday. After searching for a few months, he was able to obtain this elusive creature! He wore the costume outside and noticed all the attention it brought. Suddenly, it dawned on him to use the dino to bring attention to Stack-Up! He grabbed a piece of cardboard and wrote, “Support the Troops. Stack-Up.Org

killer instinct teases halo crossover season 3

Killer Instinct is Microsoft’s flagship fighting game for the Xbox One and is just about to enter its third “season” in March with a slew of new fighters. What better way to drum up excitement for this than by announcing a crossover with one of Microsoft’s biggest franchises, Halo? The clip is brief, but any eagle-eyed Halo fan will instantly recognize the distinct armor and energy sword (“The Prophet’s Bane”) of The Arbiter, a notable alien character from the series. Conside

    dreadnought spaceship warfare done correct

On first impressions the free-to-play title from Grey Box Games, Dreadnought, could be cast into the flood of space fighter games currently saturating the market. However, first impressions are often deceiving. After having the opportunity to speak with the games development team, it can be said without a doubt that this game is a rare exception. Dreadnought has the chance to actually change the way gamers look at spaceship warfare. Two years into development the game is grap

    infinite scuba review

The ocean is vast and unexplored, and we have so much to learn about it. Infinite Scuba aims to teach us about it in a relaxing, friendly gaming environment. The game is a self-described reality based and environmentally respectful way to explore the ocean. Made by Cascade, this game is a good introduction to the world of virtual diving. The game is meant to be educational, and I can see it really succeeding with a younger audience. The controls are explained patiently, and t

We all have our plans for the apocalypse, and in our own heads we are bad ass. However, in Tom Clancy’s: The Division, you get to live out that dream. You are part of a special task force that has been activated in light of a viral outbreak destroying most of Civilized New York. Your mission as a Division agent is to restore the order and help the innocent civilians. I have been pretty hyped about this game since the initial announcement and can say the beta has not disappoin

No one knows what to expect when you hear the name “Nuclear Throne” as a game title and,to be honest, neither did I. When I first took a look at the screenshots saying, “Wow another 2D shoot- em- up game….,” boy was I right but was completely wrong at the same time. Nuclear Throne is different. I was thinking I would play a human as my character, but no… you play as mutated fish creature in the apocalypse with no remaining human left alive on earth (or whatever these mutants
