LA Stack Special Preview of the Unknowns

The Stacks Los Angeles is a community of Angelenos, and as such, some of our activities are the things I put in the category of “Only in LA”. Our friends at IAVA gave us the incredible opportunity to watch a screening of ‘The Unknowns‘ at the New York Film Academy’s screening room on the Warner Brothers lot.

The documentary detailed the amazingly dedicated soldiers who guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. These soldiers constantly push themselves to their mental and physical limit to make absolutely sure they are the most professional and reverent they can possibly be. They understand that the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is a stand-in for countless men and women who never made it home but where never named from every battle in our nation’s history. The badge awarded to Sentinels, the name for the guards of the tomb, is the rarest badge presented by the Army with less than 650 currently awarded. The badge may be revoked at any time for actions that would discredit the tomb guards, even after the member has left the service.

Afterwards, we took place in a question and answer session with producer Ethan Morse, the former Sentinel (Badge# 548) as well as director Neal Schrodetzki, who had joined Morse at “The Old Guard” in Washington, D.C., and gone through the rigorous training required to become a guard. Questions from the crowd ranged from how the film was shot to their most memorable highs and lows during their time in Arlington National Cemetery.

We thank our good friends at IAVA as well as NYFA for allowing us this incredible opportunity. If you’re interested in joining us for one of our future events, click here and fill out your information. We’ll touch base with you as soon as possible and fill you in on our upcoming plans. If you’re not in Los Angeles, you can find your closest Stack here.
