Alexia reached out to Stack Up after being deployed overseas because she was trying to find an activity she could get into that would keep herself occupied in her free time.
I am a combat medic stationed in Kuwait. I recently graduated AIT and as soon as I got to my first duty station I was told that I was being deployed. So I was switched from a unit I was with for a month into the forward unit and now I’m just trying to get used to the Army which isn’t going well. My senior leadership is great however the NCOs for my section are not. I pretty much just stay to myself to avoid the mistreatment. Although my commander states that it won’t be healthy to be alone this entire 9 months, I just feel more safe alone. I would be a good candidate because it would allow me to distract myself from overthinking during my downtime. We are working in a hospital which can be a little busy sometimes so I think it would good to be able to block out all the thoughts that can go through mind.
Sometimes it can be hard to feel safe around others, even in service, and unfortunately, not every person serving meshes well with their fellow servicemembers. It sounds like Alexia is having trouble connecting and wanted a ways to distract herself from her anxious thinking. With a console, perhaps she might find a friend or two to game with and build that camaraderie those in service need. At the least, it can provide her some comfort.

Alexia didn't send a text response, but did send a lovely photo where she looks very happy with her gaming care package. We hope the Nintendo Switch brings her plenty of joy!
