Online card games continue to carve out their own niche within the gaming community. MTG Online, Hearthstone, Gwent, and many others pit players against each other or AI opponents through a battle of damage and mitigation with cards and combinations that make up the gameplay. Add in some interesting storytelling, captivating characters, and the chance to win some extra loot, and you’ve got yourself a decent platform for an online card game. Slay The Spire comes on strong as a
Its been quite a successful journey for the team at Defiant Development and the Hand Of Fate 2 team. Since the announcement of the game, the team at the studio have been working extremely hard, crafting an engaging, gripping experience that will appeal to fans both old and new. Hand Of Fate 2 has made appearances at PAX SOUTH, PAX EAST, and PAX WEST, from 2016 to 2017. The team also successfully kickstarted a board game of the same name, crushing its goals and paving a bran
Hearthstone is both a video game and collectible card game, and this leads to a bit of a balancing act on Blizzard’s end. Compare Hearthstone to the most obvious *other* in the card game space, Magic the Gathering, and you have a much cheaper experience. To get one, competitive, Standard deck in Magic, you’ll be spending well over $150. The catch is that you can resell that deck at a later time, and you’ll potentially have rarer cards that could get more of your money back.
Deckbound LLC Launches First Beta to Ambitious Series After exposing yourself to dozens of different game genres over the years, it takes some something really special to make you think “I’ve never seen anything like this before.” PAX East attendees had moments like this at the Deckbound Heroes demo. Deckbound LLC plans to make an ecosystem of games based around the same collection of digital “cards.” With Deckbound Heroes as its centerpiece, the indie studio wants to expand
We’ve known that Hearthstone is owed a new expansion, and we’ve pretty much known that it’s going to be based on the prehistoric homage that is Un’goro. Blizzard finally let us in on the opening act of the Year of the Mammoth in Journey to Un’goro. Breaking down the big mechanical shake-ups, we’ve got Adapt. Reminiscent of the Discover mechanic from League of Explorers, this allows you to give your minion one trait from three random ones. Your 5/4 for four mana all of a sudde
With the rise and popularity of video games, it would be easy to access that video games have begun to eclipse and overtake the traditional market of physical, non-video games. On the contrary, video games have been perfect for the board game market. In recent years, card games, board games, and tabletop games have increased in their popularity and community, becoming well known among audiences within the greater gaming community. Physical stores, such as Nerdvana in Egg Harb
I’ve had somewhat of an affinity for card games ever since I was a kid. I remember sitting at my grandparents’ kitchen table for hours with them and my brother on many a Saturday evening; playing “Seven Cards Down the River” until well after the midnight hour had passed. Dark Summoner was the first mobile game I installed when I got my first real smart phone and I played for months on end with my best friend and was pretty severely addicted.
I was a late bloomer when it cam
Ever since discovering this game earlier this year I have been enamored with Sentinels of the Multiverse. I am a fan of co-op experiences and Sentinels does a fantastic job of taking the traditionally adversarial gameplay of a CCG and turning it into a blast to play with your friends instead of against them. One thing that is immediately obvious is the fact that this is not a tradition Collectable Card Game even aside from the co-op aspect. The decks for the individual heroes
Listen up Chicken Chasers, if you’re a fan of the Fable franchise and were saddened by the closing of Lionhead Studios then there is a Kickstarter project by Flaming Fowl Studios that is sure to make you smile. You will hopefully be able to return to the world of Albion soon through Fable Fortune a new game set in the Fable world but with a twist on gameplay, it is a Collectible Card Game. The project video tells us that Fable Fortune had been in development for about 18 mont
This past Saturday was our official Call To Arms kick-off weekend! Call to Arms is Stack-Up’s year round drive to help us fund our video gaming programs, whether it’s sending giant supply crates full of gaming consoles to an Infantry company in Afghanistan, flying deserving veterans to E3 or a Penny Arcade Expo, or even helping out local Stacks do on-base events for families of deployed service members. To get us started we sat down to have a chat with Alex the First Officer
It’s a brand new meta out there. Between the Whispers of the Old Gods expansion introducing a very popular, creeping and slow archetype, and the Standard and Wild formats changing the dynamic of the game so much, Hearthstone has gone through its biggest shake-up since launch. Despite all these changes, it doesn’t mean previous archetypes that did the job now fail to meet expectations. The Zoolock build is still going strong, with many new cards contributing to Zoolock’s stren
For many of us the Holo Chess scene from Star Wars is ingrained into our psyche. It was a glimpse of the technological entertainment enjoyed in a galaxy far far away and we all knew it was better to “let the Wookie win.” I am sure more than a few fellow geeks out there will know, that little bit of visual effects wizardry was created by none other than Phil Tippett. You may also recognize his work in films such as RoboCop, Jurassic Park, and most recently The Force Awakens.
