Supply Crate – Joseph

Joseph is the Marine wearing glasses in blue coveralls.

Good morning, reader. Thanks for dropping in to check out this Supply Crate update. If this is your first time, here we tell folks about a gaming care package sent out to a Veteran or Active Duty unit who requested one. This is our way of showing folks what we do with some of the money they fundraise for our programs.

Today's crate went out to Joseph and his unit, a group of Marines aboard the USS Iwo Jima. In his request, Joseph told us:

We are the Marine Aviation Logistics Detachment to the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit. We are full of young men and women ages 18-35. For a lot of these motivated marines this will be their first deployment, unfortunately we will be aboard the USS Iwo Jima during this uncertain time during the COVID 19 pandemic. We are very unsure if we will be able to port to get some R and R from our busy work schedule. However these Marines are staying hopeful that we will have a good deployment. I personally am going on my 4th deployment and I know stress can eat these marines alive. Port calls maybe the only thing that helps them and us relax. Besides of course the video games and tournaments we tend to have when we get down time. Seeing as how we may not get to port very often I would like to see my Marines have something to help them blow off steam and relax after a long day.

Ship life can be very stressful for the folks on board, Sailor and Marine alike. Some port calls that would happen in a normal year have not been happening under Covid. Which only adds to the stress as Marines and Sailors are stuck onboard ships for weeks to months at a time. As Joseph has said, video games have provided relief onboard during their downtime, so of course, we had to help with that any way we could.

After putting a crate together and shipping it out to sea, the crate reached Joseph and his unit safely. Joseph reached back out to us once he could get some pictures to send to us. Read his reply below:

Attached is the pic of my Marines holding up the gear and shirts as requested. I am sorry I think the picture we were supposed to hold up got lost in the excitement so I do apologize for that. I wanted to say thank you very much since we received the package we have started to implement after work tournaments and general unit cohesion events with the Switch and Games. It is awesome.

If you need anything else please let me know.

Thanks, Joseph! All we need is for you and your unit to have fun with your brand new Nintendo Switch.

This crate made it to Joseph thanks to the fundraising efforts of WintersWolfcry. WintersWolfcry will be participating in our Call to Arms Live event on Veterans Day! We'll be showing 10 hours of mini-game playoffs between some of our favorite content creators on the Stack Up twitch channel while fundraising for our programs such as this one!
