Supply Crate – Rachel
Army Veteran Rachel reached out about receiving a Supply Crate because she wanted to bond through video games with her youngest son, as she did with her older son.
I’m requesting a supply crate because I have a 5-year-old child and a 19-year-old child. We have been bonding over older Nintendo systems and when I was active duty, my oldest had a Nintendo Wii and it was our special thing that I did with him when I had time. Now that I have a younger son, I want to use games to bond together as his brother and I did. His gaming system of choice was a Nintendo, but I do not have the financial ability to buy the new one. I am now a special education teacher, I have found that games bridge generational and educational gaps unlike anything else. I was a medic in the army and I continue to serve as an educator. I think that becoming more technologically savvy will help me be better as a whole. My sons love all types of gaming, and I love them. If I’m unable to get a Nintendo, we will continue to make do, but it will help me be the mom I wasn’t able to be when I was in the army.
Losing time with family is one of the hardest parts of Military service. Plenty of service members who are parents miss out on their children's milestones and don't get to spend enough time with their families. In Rachel's case, gaming with her sons has been a great way to connect. We figured a new Nintendo Switch would be great for gaming with her youngest.
