Hype - Cappy & Tappy: Temples of Peril

We’re seeing a return of the couch cooperative game genres recently, and as someone who harkens to the days of cardboard screen dividers, I’m excited. Even in its earliest development stages, First Pancake Studios started designing a single-player game where one side of the controller controlled an Indiana Jones-esque capybara and the crane-operating partner Tappy. While a single-player mode does exist, it’s the co-op mode that really seemed to have earned Cappy & Tappy its spot in the PAX Rising booth this year at PAX East 2025.

Cappy needs to explore and traverse the depths of five temples, each with unique puzzles and environmental hazards, with the help of Tappy and their crane to manipulate the environment to create new pathways and reach hidden rooms. This is a platformer where Tappy helps create the platforms that Cappy can jump and wall-climb their way through using Tetris-style blocks and a limited number of bombs. Cooperation, communication, and a fair bit of planning are needed to escape each room, some of which have timers or challenges to add just the bit of tension that makes it a challenge to keep a cool head.

To complete a level, you need to guide Cappy to the exit, but for those looking for a challenge or to satisfy a deep-seated urge to collect all of the shiny things, there are three idols hidden around each level. For those more score-chasing explorers, an endless mode exists to see how high their duo can make it, complete with a leaderboard. Cappy & Tappy will be available in 2026 on Steam, with more platforms possibly coming, but there is a demo currently available to check out.
