How Stack Up & Gaming Helped Me

Jon Huse | U.S. Marine Corps Veteran

My life was spinning out of control. My mind was foggy. I have PTSD and TBI. I would sit in my house and not talk to anyone. My ex-wife would call in welfare checks because I won't answer the phone. My buddy was all into video gaming; he said the yelling and intense action of the games helped clear his mind, and through online connection, he was talking to people.

I reached out to Wounded Warriors for a game system and was shot down. I reached out to the VA, and they didn't have the resources. So, I had to seek out help, which was hard because there are so many scams out there. But when Stack Up stepped up and helped me, my life improved. The games help me clear my mind and focus. It has helped me reconnect with my daughter. I have been getting out of the house more and going to the gym, and my stress has calmed down. My next step is getting a PlayStation VR so I can focus on exercising when I have episodes. As far as online, I don't do it. For some reason, having too many people talking at a time scrambles my head. The game that helped me the most was The Last of Us and Days Gone, but if I can’t sleep, I’ll play Minecraft for hours. Thanks for your time.
