Tetris is a game that fundamentally changed puzzle game forever. With each new iteration of the original game, new perspectives and designs were introduced, from new music and presentations to placing the game in a third dimension with different game modes. Tetris Effect will do things incredibly differently while maintaining the classic feel of the original game.

Leading the development of Tetris Effect is Tetsuya Mizuguchi, who directed a team of enthusiasts designers and programmers to develop engaging, dream-like games, such as Rez Infinite, Children of Eden, and Lumines. The aforementioned games were known for their tremendously vivid visual style of flowing colors, dimensions, styles, and perspectives. Rez, in particular, puts players inside the world of a computer, and through a variety of hypnagogic levels, synchronized to thumping music beats.

Tetris Effect will put players into a vast, elegant, and enthralling zones. The game will still be the same, familiar puzzler that players have known for decades, but an entirely new approach is being implemented with its presentation, visuals, and gameplay. Tetris Effect was actually based on a variety of academic studies, where players who played the original Tetris for long periods of time reported seeing shapes and hearing the soundtrack in a fascinating and liberating way. Tetris Effect is based on the data collected in those studies, providing an engaging experience unlike anything else. Tetris Effect will also support PS VR when it arrives.
