Supply Crate – Robert

Army Veteran Robert reached out for a Supply Crate because of his struggles with PTSD and he wanted a new console for relief from his anxiety.

I am a combat veteran who proudly served in the Iraq War as a member of the US Army. During deployment, I faced situations and experiences no training could have prepared me for-experiences that left invisible wounds I carry till this day. Since returning home, I have struggled with severe depression and PTSD. The memories, hyper vigilance, sleepless nights, and feelings of isolation have become a daily battle of their own. While I have tried different types of therapy and medication, I've discovered that having a health outlet to safely manage my symptoms makes a profound difference in my quality of life. One of the few tools that brings me relief is video gaming. It may sound simple, but when I play, my mind shifts from the past to the present. It helps me calm my anxiety, improve my focus and reduce intrusive thoughts. Gaming online helps me feel less alone in the world that sometimes feels distant. Having access to a gaming console and a few supportive games wouldn't just be for entertainment, it would be a form of therapy for me. If would give me something posititive to look forward to, a chance to reconnect with joy an most importantly, a way to copy with my symptoms that affect my daily functioning

Gaming is a great distraction when the mind is too heavy because it offers a distraction from everything that may be weighing down your mind. Whether it's playing a puzzle game, exploring new worlds, or shooting down the opposing team in CoD or Fortnite, having something else to focus on that produces completed tasks and results can help people feel better. We sent Robert a new console and games in the hopes that he'll get some of that relief when he's having a tough day.
