Tactical Warfare with Hidden Intentions

My previous article was about Pocket Paragons, which is based on Space Lion: Divide and Conquer, the full-scale galactic epic battle game. From Solis Game Studio, this was one of the most ambitious and memorable games that came out of the Gen Con 2025 game vault.

Space Lion: Divide and Conquer is built for multiplayer games, centering around hidden deployment and simultaneous resolution across three battlefields. Each round, players secretly assign units, then reveal and resolve conflicts lane by lane. Victory is not about strength and winning a single battlefield; it’s about prediction, misdirection, and knowing when to truly commit!

The game has tons of replayability with a variety of factions that keep every game fresh. Different units, abilities, and playstyles mean no two sessions feel the same. Alliances form and crumble, gambits succeed or absolutely fail, and every reveal moment is a crazy whirlwind of action.

What impressed us most was how smoothly the game flows despite its scope. Rules are clear, turns are purposeful, and the tension is constant. The Solis team’s enthusiasm was infectious. They talked about the universe like storytellers, not just designers. They wove a story through the whole gameplay experience. The team’s love was tangible with every exciting turn and every battle played. Chris Solis even went into his process for developing a game, explaining how he was very single-minded when it came to this creation and masterpiece!

After hearing about this game, we were excited to hear about other games he had in the works, though some were only teasers, because he did not want to give too much away too early!

How to Play

This game is pretty straightforward on the surface, but once players have played a game or two and get the hang of how the game goes, certain strategies and styles start to emerge. The gears really started to turn after we played all the factions at least once.

Each round, players secretly assign units from their hands to one of three battlefields. After all players make their final decisions and commit, the units are revealed, and battles resolve simultaneously. The strongest force in each lane wins that battlefield, dealing damage or triggering special effects.

Players have limited resources, must predict opponents’ moves, and decide when to concentrate or spread forces. With the variety of factions, play styles, and different strengths/weaknesses, no two games are the same.

Victory comes from destroying opponents’ bases or meeting specific win conditions.

In the Deluxe Edition, the Solis team includes some special tokens for the game, a small expansion pack, and a solo version of the game to give players a more expansive experience, even when playing alone!

Why It Shines

The hidden deployment system creates constant tension. Every reveal feels dramatic, every decision carries weight, and each choice could be an exciting success or complete failure! Despite its scope, the game flows smoothly and keeps everyone engaged.

Talking with the Solis team reinforced how much care went into crafting not just a game, but a universe. The Solis team did release a "solo mode expansion" for this game, so that even alone, players can enjoy battling and learning new strategies for when they face live opponents!

We look forward to more amazing expansions and hope to see the original game get the attention that it deserves!

Final Verdict: Space Lions: Divide and Conquer is a great strategic, dramatic, and endlessly replayable game that everyone can enjoy!

SPACE LIONS: DIVIDE AND CONQUER IS A MUST-BUY

A special thank you to Chris Solis and Solis Game Studio for allowing me the pleasure of reviewing this game!
