We’re about three months into Hearthstone’s Journey to Un’goro, with the game reaching a bit of a stale period that’s natural before every expansion. While it may be less stale than previous expansions, Blizzard’s next expansion reveal definitely got people talking. Since the game’s inception, we’ve been wanting them to tackle any and all things Lich King, and Knights of the Frozen Throne looks to do just that.
Where Un’goro focused on Quests, Knights of the Frozen Throne focuses on alternate heroes. Corrupted by the Lich King, this is Blizzard’s answer to a ravenous fanbase wanting Death Knights showcased. Every class gets a “hero card” that replaces your hero with a Death Knight version of that hero. They’ve only opted to showcase the Hunter hero card, Deathstalker Rexxar. He’ll get you armor, damage the board, and most importantly, twist your hero power into something that lets you create custom minions which are fusions of two different beasts.
How these sorts of interactions will affect the other heroes has yet to be disclosed outside of a very riveting reveal trailer. On top of new cards, Knights of the Frozen Throne will give players free single-player content in the form of battles with many famous faces of the World of Warcraft expansion, Wrath of the Lich King. With the promise of a free hero card on the docket, they’re making good on their promise to deliver on single player content ever since Adventures were ousted.
Hearthstone: Knights of the Frozen Throne is set for an August release, and they won’t be teasing cards for another few weeks. Gone are the days of month-long drip-feeds and agonizing waiting periods. You’re able to pre-order a bundle of 50 packs on the Hearthstone stores now, and it comes with a Frostmourne card back for your troubles.
