Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War Reveals first Gameplay trailer

It's been a long time since we have seen the crew of the Call of Duty Black Ops. Originally launched in 2010, Call of Duty: Black Ops has been perhaps one of the most popular flavors of the long list of Call of Duty games. In comparison to the Call of Duty Modern Warfare games and Call of Duty: advanced Warfare, Call of Duty: Black Ops is a sub-series known for its Cold War setting, intriguing story, and immensely satisfying bevy of content. After remaining in the shadows for quite some time, Activision has declassified and made public the first story trailer for Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War. This follows the "Know Your History" Trailer, which was unveiled on August 21st.

Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War returns to the secret missions of Alex Mason and Frank Woods, two elite and highly-trained special operators fighting on the very front lines of the world's most secret wars. The years have gone on and the men have grown older, but the Cold War has only gotten harder. It is 1981. ICBM's are becoming smarter and deadlier. New pursuits are being made into top-secrets weapons programs that seem straight out of science fiction. Ronald Reagan toys with the creation of the Star Wars Defense Program and the Soviets believe in the power of lasers to crush their American enemies. All the while, Michael Jackson is the king of the billboards and Star Wars: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back shocks the world. With a new threat looming and World War III ticking closer, Alex and Frank are sent back into a hidden battlefield, to fight a war that does not exist, to give the world another chance to live.

The trailer for Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War showcases the familiar high-octane levels of excitement and action the series is known. Action is set on a global scale from Germany to Vietnam to Moscow, delivering a story of deception, conspiracy, and pulse-pounding clandestine warfare. The trademark cinematic levels of storytelling and action are present once again, now powered by the capabilities of next-generation systems. Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War is a surprise announcement, but a very welcome one, as the community has a strong fondness for the story arcs established in Call of Duty: Black Ops.

“We are excited to launch the next blockbuster title in Call of Duty, one of the most iconic franchises in entertainment with over 100 million players across console, PC and mobile,” said Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard. “Black Ops Cold War will deliver a thrilling experience that will not only set the bar for next-generation action games but also keep our players connected to their friends."

It’s an honor to develop an all-new story for Call of Duty: Black Ops players,” said Dan Vondrak, Sr. Creative Director, Raven Software. “Black Ops Cold War picks up right after the original, dropping players into a conspiracy-filled thrill ride set in the 1980s. Fighting alongside fan favorite-characters like Woods, Mason and Hudson, players will battle to uncover the truth. Everything isn’t what it seems, as players' choices help shape the outcome of the narrative. We cannot wait for fans to experience it themselves.”

Black Ops Cold War is not only a celebration of what makes the Black Ops series special, but it’s also a new beginning for the next generation of players,” said Mark Gordon, Co-Studio Head, Treyarch. “As developers, being able to bring this kind of experience to a new generation of consoles is an incredible opportunity.”

Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War will be cross-platform and cross-progression. As the industry shifts to new gaming system, players will be able to transfer their progress onto other systems for when they upgrade. A Battle Pass System will be featured to unlocked a bevy of post-launch content, while the infamous Zombies mode will make a comeback.

Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War is slated for launch this coming November for PlayStation 5, Xbox One Series X, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Multiplayer will be unveiled on September 9th.
