Supply Crate – Shawn

Shawn found gaming helps him out after serving in Afghanistan. He requested a Supply Crate to get the latest console:

My name is Shawn. I served 11 months and 13th days with the 101st Airborne Division in Afghanistan. 2010 and 2011 was a rough year for us. We lost 19 brothers and sisters; 6 in just one day. That tour impacted me severely from the mental side of things. With the loss of our bothers and sisters, to the very close near death experiences, my mind will never be the same. When I returned home, my head would always be on a swivel. My wife would tell me that I would fight people in my sleep. To this day, 11 years later, I still do to some extent. I tried different things to help with my mental state, but nothing seemed to work. I then got into gaming pretty hardcore. When I am gaming, it's like the world doesn't exist and I am free to be who I want. I call it my mental escape from reality. Gaming has helped me cope over the years and I don't see myself stopping any time soon. Thank you for the consideration! I Leven if I don't qualify, I thank you for what you do for my fellow brothers and sisters. The impact you make on lives is incredible. Thank you again.

"When I'm gaming, it's like the world doesn't exist." is exactly why we do this. The world can be a harsh place. When you've seen combat, all that harshness may cling to you and make it difficult to live normally. Escaping and focusing on a life not like anything you've experienced can provide comfort and relief.

Thank you for selecting me for this! After my deployment, I needed a place to escape reality to forget where I am sometimes. After a stressful day or when my anxiety acts up, gaming is where I turn to. I can be in my own world and just relax. I will be able to do this a lot easier with this crate. I am incredibly thankful to theDMLair, all other donors and Stack Up for having this program for other Veterans. You folks are awesome! Thanks again for everything you have done and will continue to do!!

Thanks for the great reply, Shawn! We hope he enjoys gaming and gets away to some pretty cool worlds.
