Sonic Mania – Intro Movie Sets the Stage for Sonic’s return

With the highly anticipated release of Sonic Mania, SEGA shared the intro movie for the game, and the results will make any long-time Sonic fan have their hearts burst in cheer.

Reminiscent of the intro movie for Sonic CD and early illustrations of the Archie Comic’s Sonic Comics, this intro movie showcases the attitude, style, and feel of the original Blue Blur. In the movie, we see Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, join forces and fight evil robots across incredibly colorful and vibrant worlds, ripped from the eclectic vibes of the 1990’s.

The animation was directed by Tyson Hesse, who formerly worked on the Sonic Archie Comics, MegaMan, and The Amazing World of Gumball on Cartoon Network. The soundtrack is original new music from Hyper Potions, which feels like a new, yet passionate love letter to the groundbreaking soundtrack of Sonic The Hedgehog 3.

Sonic Mania is a brand-new sonic game in the very vein of the classic Sonic the Hedgehog Games, known for their speed, style, gameplay, and soundtracks. Sonic Mania is being developed by Headcannon and Pagoda Games West, which was responsible for porting the original Sonic The Hedgehog games to mobile devices, such as the iPhone and Android.

Details on the game’s story are unknown but it has been revealed that it takes place after the events of Sonic The Hedgehog 3, Sonic & Knuckles, and Sonic CD. It doesn’t appear that Sonic 4 has any involvement here. This is the first new Sonic game following the cataclysmic disaster of Sonic BOOM: Rise of Lyric.

Sonic Mania is out now on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The PC version will arrive on August 29th. Look for a hands-on preview of the game from PAX WEST 2016 by clicking here.
